THE ACREAGE, Fla. - A group of Acreage neighbors are fed up and say too many bad accidents are happening near the intersection of Orange Boulevard and Banyan Boulevard.
Dawn Pittard has had three recent accidents actually land in her yard.
"(The female driver) came through (my fence)," Pittard said. "Her car flipped upside down and her car was in the backyard."
That was four months ago, she said.
"The second accident they ran the stop sign again there and the gentleman they hit ended up hitting his truck into (in my front yard)," Pittard said.
That was not too long after the first crash and the crash that sent a van tumbling into her mailbox was just two weeks ago.
"Thank God it came to rest on the top of that mailbox," Pittard said. "Because it would've killed the kid on the ground."
That kid was 15-years-old and had to be airlifted. Luckily he survived and sent a note to Pittard that now sits on her fridge.
"I was involved in the accident and I'm confident your mailbox saved my life," the note read.
"It is very scary because it's always been the same scenario where the people on Banyan (Boulevard) are running the stop sign," Pittard said. "If there was a stop sign at Orange (Boulevard) it would at least give those people a chance to not get hit."
Palm Beach County traffic officials said they've never done a study on Orange Boulevard in this neighborhood, but they believe putting a four way stop sign to slow down drivers would be a better option than a stop light.
"At Mandarin (Boulevard) and Orange (Boulevard) there is a four way stop sign, but over here it's a two-way stop," Marisa, who lives across the street from Pittard said. "Not everybody realizes that, I think."
That's why Marisa would like it if the county put up a four way stop sign before somebody loses their life from speeders she says drive past her house daily.
"If they could just make this a four way stop I think would save a lot of vehicles," she said. "And it would save potential injuries to the drivers of those vehicles."
As well as saving a life from being remembered with another memorial on the side of the Orange Boulevard.
