A teacher and basketball coach at Lantana Middle School is removed from campus after allegations surfaced regarding his conduct at work.
District spokesperson Nat Harrington said an investigation surrounding the alleged incident involving coach and teacher Arshley Emile is ongoing.
Harrington would not going any further into the details of what happened but told WPTV NewsChannel 5 Emile has been removed from Lantana Middle School and out of contact with students.
"That's disturbing," said Gary Nelson, a parent whose child attends Lantana Middle School.
Nelson said he only had heard the basketball team was out of a coach. His 7th -grade daughter, Katelyn Staley, said she heard rumors were swirling.
"The word that's been around campus is that he's not coming back and that's it," said Staley.
When WPTV NewsChannel 5 went to the Palm Beach County School District to look through Emile's personnel file, the public records department manager said they were too back logged to get to his record on Friday.
The district spokesperson did send a statement:
"There is an open investigation, and the teacher has been reassigned to a non-student contact position during the investigation." Nat Harrington, district spokesperson.
Harrington told WPTV NewsChannel 5 the decision to remove teachers from classrooms is a "case by case decision."
Harrington also would not specify the allegations made that sparked the investigation.
" There can be no comment on any open investigation," wrote Harrington in an email.
"They need to let you know more, absolutely. My daughter is here. A lot of people's kids are here, we got to be protective." said Nelson.
More documents surrounding the investigation and background of Emile could be released in the coming days.
