LANTANA, FL -- Since the dawn of time, man has dreamed of taking flight.

Dave Whitcomb lives the dream.

A pilot for the non-profit organization, History Flight, Whitcomb teaches people about the sacrifices made during WWII.

He knows there's no better place to learn that than from the pilot's seat.

"And to just get a real taste of history, and to experience these historical monuments, which is what they really are," said Whitcomb.

History flight has another side as well, one dedicated to putting World War II to rest, rather than bringing it to life.

"There's still over 70,000 missing in action service people from that conflict. Part of our mission is a group that travels with side-scanning ground sonar to identify and return these people to home," said Whitcomb.

With their two-fold mission, History Flight is a reminder that Americans should never forget the sacrifices made by soldiers, sailors and Marines to protect the freedoms we enjoy, both on the ground, and in the air.

"Our real goal here is to preserve the history of WWII. To help people to understand how important that campaign was in the history of our country, and the history of the world," said Whitcomb.

If you have the itch to ride into the wild blue yonder, there's still time.

Dave and his T6-Texan will be flying the friendly skies over Lantana Airport this weekend.
