LANTANA, FL -- Area police agencies have been alerted to a pair of suspects who smashed their way into a gas station this morning, stealing cigarettes and cash.
The robbery took place at about 2:12 a.m., at the Texaco service station near the intersection of North Dixie Highway and Lantana Road.
The men, whose heads and faces were covered by shirts, smashed through a plate glass window of the store area. They may have used a trash container to break the glass.
Once inside they quickly filled the trash container with cigarette cartons and cash from the register.
The owner of the station believes the thieves made off with about $2000 worth of cigarettes and about $250 from the cash drawer.
It is not known if the suspects ran off, or got into a nearby vehicle to make their escape.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lantana Police (561) 540-5701, or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers (800) 458-TIPS (8477).
