Three-year-old hospitalized after being shot in hand in Lake Worth

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - A 3-year-old child was hospitalized tonight after being shot in the hand at a Lake Worth apartment, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident happened at about 7:45 p.m. in the 2500 block of 10th Avenue North. The child was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach with non-life threatening injuries, sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.

It was not immediately clear who was in possession of the gun, or where it came from.

Detectives from the sheriff's Special Investigations Unit were en route to the scene to investigate.
