SUBURBAN LAKE WORTH, Fla. - A suburban Lake Worth woman has been charged with child neglect after a Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy determined that she left her two young children home alone on Wednesday.
Jolita Midget, 26, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $6,000 bond. Midget, who was not present in court this morning, also has the option of being released under supervision instead of bond.
Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Ted S. Booras ordered that she have no contact with her children. She is charged with two counts of child neglect without great harm.
Midget's arrest stemmed from a call placed by a concerned neighbor around 8:53 p.m. on Wednesday, who reported that her two children were home alone. When the deputy arrived, a 6-year-old girl opened the door and immediately began crying while saying that she didn't want to go to jail.
The girl eventually told the deputy that her mommy "was at work." The deputy noted that there was another child, a 2-year-old girl, also in the home.
A neighbor gave the girls snacks and juice sometime after Midget left, the 6-year-old said.
Midget returned home nearly an hour and 40 minutes after the deputy's arrival, according to the report.
She said that she was "a single mom and there is nothing else she can do," the report stated. She added that she was gone because she ran to the store.
A Florida Department of Children and Families investigator came to the home, according to the report.
