LAKE WORTH, Fla. - A Lake Worth family is in shock, after a surveillance video shows a vehicle hitting Luis Rodriguez while he was crossing Military Trail south of 10th Avenue North. His uncle Pedro Rodriguez said, "This is horrible, this is just like a nightmare."
As family members comfort his mother, the 32 year old fights for his life in the hospital.
His uncle wants to know who is responsible.
"In a second your life changes forever. This guy did this and he didn't care," he said.
The video was captured by a surveillance camera from a nearby business.
The surveillance video shows Rodriguez crossing the southbound lanes of Military Trail, and being struck by a vehicle as he gets closer to the northbound lanes. The driver stops in the right lane, gets out, checks the front of his car, then drives off.
"It's like he didn't care about what happened what he did right back there, " said Rodriguez' uncle.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident, hoping the driver or someone who witnessed the accident will come forward.
"I would like to see justice for my nephew. It's so hard so hard. This has pretty much destroyed an entire family. You know you don't expect these things to happen to you," said Rodriguez' uncle.
If you have information that can help investigators, call Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous. The number is 1-800-458-TIPS.
