Lake Worth Swap Shop under investigation for selling pirated CDs

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Detectives discovered more than 1000 pirated CDs in 36 plastic bins during the execution of a search warrant on Thursday at the Lake Worth Swap Shop,according to a Palm Beach County Probable Cause Affidavit.

The investigation began several weeks earlier after detectives were tipped off to possible illegal sales of music CD's at the Lake Worth shop at 3438 Lake Worth Road, the affidavit said.

During the investigation, detectives witnessed people buying the pirated CDs, some selling for as little as $5. 

The swap shop was set up in front of a food concession stand under one large tent with tables and plastic bins containing the stolen music. The illegally burned CDs were sold in yellow sleeves, which indicate the product is not legal. In addition, each CD contained more musical tracks than legitimate products on the market, according to the affidavit.

At the time of the original investigation, detectives identified a Florida tag on the back of a vehicle transporting the products for sale.  After obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, detectives recovered a CD/DVD burner tower used for burning multiple copies at one time.

Gregory King was taken into custody after admitting to selling the CDs for the past seven years. He told detectives that the sales were his only source of income. He was charged with unauthorized copying of sounds more than 1K.

King was released on a $3,000 bond Saturday evening.
