SUBURBAN LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- A man was hospitalized this morning after an officer found him in his car with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting around 6: 20 a.m. just west of the entrance to Florida's Turnpike on Lake Worth Road in suburban Lake Worth, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

A Fort Lauderdale officer called in the shooting after finding the 33-year-old man sitting in his parked car, according to PBSO officials.

The man was transported to Delray Medical Center via Trauma Hawk. PBSO officials say it is possible the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but cannot confirm that information at this time.

Lake Worth Road is open and traffic is moving normally.
