Lake Worth did not plan a Veterans Day parade this year so a group of veterans marched down Lake Avenue Friday afternoon on their own.

They called it organized spontaneity.

"We are going to do our own thing, as long as we are alive, because we think that we are the backbone of this country," said one marcher.

"The city hasn't thrown us a parade in three years. Three years ago, we had to raise our own money for our own parade. And they don't realize that without the veterans, there would be no Christmas parade, there would be no other parade," said Don Sargent a veteran combat documentary photographer.

Last year the city told vets that they didn't have the resources in the budget to plan an event. The vets responded with their own parade...and found themselves doing it again this year..

Newly elected commissioner Andy Amoroso says it needs to happen next time. "..it's sad that we don't have nothing in Lake Worth for our veterans."

Veterans say they are making a point.

"I just believe it's just paying homage to all veterans, living and dead, there is an awful lot of people who sacrificed a lot," said Guy LaBarre Marine veteran.

The veterans say no matter the day, or the plan, they love their country.

Veterans say since the city throws events for the holidays, and gay pride, they believe there should be one for veterans too.
