LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- A Broward County Sheriff's Office deputy on his way to work was struck by a vehicle this morning on Interstate 95 near 6th Avenue in Lake Worth.
Palm Beach Fire Rescue notified BSO dispatch at 5:45 a.m. that they were airlifting a Broward deputy to Delray Medical Center after he was struck in the southbound lanes of I-95.
The deputy was heading to work but stopped to aid a motorist involved in an accident and was out of his vehicle when he was struck, according to a BSO spokesperson.
The deputy was transported via Trauma Hawk as a trauma alert but is said to be alert and talking, the BSO spokesperson said.
Traffic was backed up to 10th Avenue. The 10th Avenue on-ramp was temporarily shut down, but has since been reopened. Five southbound lanes are open and traffic is clearing.
