LAKE PARK, Fla. - A Lake Park man was arrested Wednesday for illegally importing hundreds of pounds of conch, lobster and fish from the Bahamas.
Van Bodden-Martinez, 47, brought a boat filled with 45 spiny lobster tails, 42 yellowtail snapper and 343 pounds of queen conch into Palm Beach County in February, according to a federal indictment.
The sea life was illegally fished from the Bahamas, and Bodden-Martinez had no license to export it.
Importing an illegal catch is a felony under the federal Lacey Act of 1981, and Bodden-Martinez faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
