LANTANA — Sheriff's detectives have made an arrest regarding the death of a 29-year-old Greenacres man who was shot and killed after attending a Labor Day party .
Christopher Kiristy, 25, of Lake Worth, was charged Monday with second-degree felony murder, and burglary with assault or battery with a deadly weapon.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's arrest report, Lantana police officers and sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at 1046 Palama Way on Sept. 6.
When officials arrived at the house, they spoke with Anthony Gangarossa, his housemate Ross Kollmar, and Gangarossa's girlfriend . Gangarossa was bleeding from his head and face, a sheriff's office probable cause affidavit says.
The three told officers that Johnny Cash Vanderwiele was a guest of the Labor Day party, but was asked to leave after an "incident."
At about 5:30 the next morning, Vanderwiele, Kiristy, and another unidentified man returned to the house. Vanderwiele claimed he needed to get his belongings back, and as Gangarossa opened the door, the three began beating him and pushed themselves into the house, the affidavit says.
Kollmar came out of his bedroom armed with a gun and told the three to leave. The three left, and in fear they would come back again, Kollmar fired a single gun shot through the front door.
Detectives later learned that Vanderwiele, who previously worked as a server at the Old Key Lime House in Lantana, arrived at JFK Medical Center with a gun shot wound and was pronounced dead.
After first lying to detectives, Kiristy admitted later that he was friends with Vanderwiele and helped drive him to JFK Medical, the affidavit says.
