GREENACRES, Fla. - A truck struck and killed a child Wednesday afternoon in Greenacres.
An 8 year old boy was crossing the street on a bicycle when the accident happened. He was riding with his father.
A delivery truck from RecoverCare, from Jacksonsville, was making a turn on Jog Road when the vehicle struck and killed the child, say police.
"He was laying on the ground, bleeding very badly from the head," said witness Thomas Pepastino.
The accident happened in front of the Woodlake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in the 6400 block of 13th Road South.
"I called 911 to render whatever assistance I could to have the police come out. By the time the police got here, it was too late," said Kevin Gonzalez.
"Palm Beach County Fire Rescue treated the boy at the scene but couldn't revive the child," said Greenacres Captain Michael Porath.
"Children, they're young, they don't deserve to die and they are just starting to live. It's just a sad tragedy and it reminds us that we need to value life and be safe," Gonzalez said.
