JUPITER, Fla. -- Esteban Gonzalez agreed to accept the terms of a plea deal for animal cruelty charges early Wednesday morning in court.

Prosecuting attorney Sam Miller said Gonzalez, of Jupiter, will get 24 months of jail time for cutting a puppy's throat in February of 2011.

Prosecutors said Gonzalez became upset and snatched the puppy out of his girlfriend’s hand and threw it to the ground. They said he used a razor blade to cut its throat afterwards.

Gonzalez has already served 351 days.

He is charged with animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
