Workers at Lion Country Safari preparing a tasty meal of frozen salmon for the lions, as the safari's summer campers looked on. This week the theme is all about lions. The campers constructed papier-mâché animals to let the lions play with as toys.

Terry Wolf, the Director of Wildlife, says the animals enjoy the time. "Enrichment is a special thing that we do for all of the animals but today we are doing something special for the lions. We give the animals an opportunity to something that is particular to their species. With lions they love to hunt things, they love to grab things and chase them."

The lions couldn't wait to devour their catch of the day. They also feasted on popsicles made with blood to help them cool off. Wolf said, "It makes the animals healthier. You know the animal is not bored, doesn't get into so much trouble and is a lot happier through their life."

The animals were entertained and so were the campers who watched as their papier-mâché creations were ripped apart.

Shae Henson, one of the campers, watched the lions go after their projects. "It was kind of fun like I was here two weeks ago and we saw and ours got like destroyed like crazy and this week it was more calm, but it was still awesome, it was really fun." It's a time for the lions to get a treat and the campers to observe wildlife.
