President Barack Obama holds a final rally in South Florida

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - In the final days of the campaign, the president made what will likely be his final stop in South Florida.

"Are you fired up?" the president asked the estimated crowd of 23,000 supporters. "I need you Florida, to make sure their voices are heard, to make sure your voices are heard. We've come too far to turn back now."

But the president's advisers say their ground game is not just about relying on people who always vote.

Rather, they've targeted people like Maria Santiago of Boca Raton and Jean Wahl of Coral Springs.

"I didn't believe in voting," said Santiago.

"I followed it, I just never (voted)," said Wahl.

The campaign calls them sporadic voters, meaning they've sat out at least one of the last three elections. This time, they were urged to early vote, which they both did.

"This time, it's big, it's a must," said Santiago.

The Miami Herald says the president leads those kinds of voters by more than 10 points.

"They sent me flyers. I got a couple of phone calls," said Wahl.

The president made an appeal to widen the tent - with an eye on independents.

"As long as I'm president, I will work with anybody of any party to move this country forward."

As he bid farewell to South Florida, he left his volunteers with one last piece of motivation.

"If you're willing to work with me, and knock on some doors with me, make some phone calls with me, turn out for me, we're gonna win Florida and we'll win this election. We'll reaffirm the bonds that hold this country together."
