WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - It's a close race between Lois Frankel and Adam Hasner, as they compete for District 22 Congressional seat. The district stretches from northern Palm Beach County, south to Fort Lauderdale.
Political analyst Robert Watson says this is a closely watched race. "This is one of the most contentious races in the country, one of the most expensive, and one of the most important, " Watson says.
He adds that both parties are trying to gain more representation in congress, and are spending a lot of money to help their candidate win. Watson says, "They're seeing the millions of dollars that we used to see reserved for governor's races or senate races just in a congressional race."
Lois Frankel says it's worth the money, and the lack of sleep. Leading up to Tuesday's election, she's been spending her time all over the district, attending events and canvassing door to door. Her team has also made thousands of phone calls to help get more votes.
Frankel says, "There's so much at stake in this country, including health insurance for my 87-year old mother, protecting Medicare. I've got a son and I hope the children he has someday have a future and we can get our kids educated and have really good jobs in this community."
Adam Hasner's team has been busy as well. He's been traveling throughout the district which stretches along the coast. On Sunday, volunteers spent the day going canvassing and making phone calls. Hasner says he's confident their efforts will pay off on election day, and is ready to get to work in congress.
"This election is not about republicans or democrats. This election is about math. We can't keep spending a trillion dollars a year more than we're bringing in. Families understand that, businesses understand that. Our government needs to operate that way as well," Hasner says.
A WPTV poll shows Frankel has a slight lead over Hasner.
