A homeless woman is accused of trying to sell her 3-day-old baby at a Taco Bell, according to court documents filed Monday.

A woman at the Highway 99 restaurant in Washington state called 911 Thursday evening, reporting to police that the defendant, Heidi L. Knowles, 36, offered to sell her son for $500- $5,000, court documents say.

Knowles was arrested that evening on suspicion of attempted child selling-buying, a Class C felony, and several outstanding warrants.

She made her first court appearance Monday morning.

Citing her lengthy criminal history, including domestic-violence assault and drug-possession charges, Superior Court Judge Robert Lewis set bail at $50,000.

A lone friend attended the hearing in support of Knowles. She told reporters Knowles is going through a divorce and thought she may have postpartum depression.
