PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. - The crowds arrived early, some setting up camp late Sunday night for the best launch viewing spot.

The Beachline Causeway is one of the most popular places on the Space Coast to watch launches and thousands of cars lined the roadway Monday morning.

NASA expected half a million people to watch Endeavour's final flight across the Space Coast.

The shuttle lifted off on time, creating a spectacular sight that disappeared too quickly in the clouds.

But Shaunda Lawson, who drove down from Jacksonville, thought it was perfect.

"It makes me proud to be an American," says Lawson.  "It makes me proud to see it all and to hear it. There's nothing like just hearing it too."
