NEW YORK - The attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 were nearly 10 years ago, when almost 3,000 people were killed. Never-before-seen video of the attack on the World Trade Center shot by the New York Police Department and acquired by the website cryptome.org was just posted on YouTube.

The video is more than 17 minutes long and shows different views of the disaster. Perhaps the most compelling pictures shown from the police helicopter are when it is flying almost directly on top of one of the towers as smoke spews from seemingly everywhere.

There is also audio of the officers on the helicopter. At one point you hear one say:

They did it. It’s down. The second tower’s down…How can it go down?

The distressed voice is heard over video of clouds of smoke billowing through lower Manhattan. The man turns to the officer next to him in the helicopter and says:

We got out of there right at the right time.

ABC News reports that the video was obtained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It was then reportedly leaked to cryptome.

Most of the recent video can be seen below. It contains some foul language.
