NEW YORK, N.Y. -- A New York City bus driver is being called a hero after catching a little girl who fell out of a third story window -- and it was all caught on camera.
Stephen St. Bernard, 52, said he saw the 7-year-old crawl onto an air conditioner and start dancing Monday afternoon.
He said he tried to keep her calm and then she lost her balance.
"I think about my daughter, and you know, she's a little kid," he told NBC 4 New York .
Video shows St. Bernard shouting at the girl, telling her to go back into her apartment. But it's too late, and the girl falls.
Without a moment's notice, St. Bernard catches her, stumbling forward to the ground with the girl still in his arms.
"I picked her up and carried her, and I was holding her, rubbing her, and she just more or less kept looking around," he told NBC 4 New York . "She never closed her eyes, she didn't lose consciousness."
The little girl is fine. His legendary catch was featured on the Today Show Tuesday morning.
St. Bernard suffered a muscle tear in his arm, but he says he'll be okay.
The NYPD says no charges have been filed against the girl's parents.
