NASA will show off its new Orion crew capsule at Kennedy Space Center today in advance of an unmanned 2014 orbital test flight, according USA Today .

NASA will conduct its first test launch of the Orion spacecraft in 2014. This exploration program's purpose is to ultimately send humans to the moon, Mars and asteroids, according to the USA Today report

According to NASA, Orion will carry astronauts farther into space, sustaining the crew during space travel and providing emergency abort capability.

Orion has three main parts: the launch abort system, or LAS; the crew module; and the service module. Astronauts will sit in the middle section, the crew module, according to NASA.

According to clarksvilleonline.com , Orion will launch from the Space Launch System (SLS). The SLS will power the Orion spacecraft.
