FRESNO, Calif. - A snapshot of the inside of a Fresno apartment complex's garbage is filled with mail about Obamacare.
And, witnesses say the mail was dumped by the mailman.
"He just kept glancing over his shoulder, over and over again, like he knew what he was doing was wrong," said neighbor Jerry Dills.
Dills says he was in his apartment and he could see to the parking lot. He says the postal carrier was parked and he noticed some unusual behavior, then he saw the postal carrier walk over to the Dumpster and he says that's where the postal carried dumped the mail.
"It was just amazing, I looked down in there and there was a bunch of people's addresses and right away...I knew this was absolutely wrong,” Dills said.
Dills says he brought the mail that he found in the garbage to his local post office where he filed a formal complaint against the carrier.
A representative from the U.S. Postal Service says he questioned the carrier and the carrier admits to the throwing the mail into the Dumpster.
According to U.S. Postal Service spokesperson Gus Ruiz the mail carrier says "he was running late and wanted to get back to the post office on time."
Ruiz said that the mailman was fired immediately and that the worker was a temporary carrier hired in August.
Dills says he's happy to hear that the mail carrier lost his job. "This is very important information and there's no telling where you stop it at, you stop at one thing or is everything being thrown away on a daily basis. What is this person doing?"
The postal spokesperson says that all the mail that ended up inside the Dumpster will be delivered.
An investigation into whether or not the mail carrier threw away other mail is taking place.
The postal carrier could face federal charges for throwing the mail away.
One person will win a three-year lease on a 2013 Honda Civic Lx Sedan automatic.
