WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) -- Authorities in a Salt Lake City suburb say a man shot after pulling a gun in a police lobby told officers months ago that he wanted to be shot by police.
West Valley City police Sgt. Jason Hauer says 39-year-old James Ramsey Kammeyer entered the lobby around 8:30 a.m. Monday and asked an officer to come out from behind a partition. When several officers came to help, Kammeyer pulled out a gun and at least one of the officers shot him multiple times.
His wounds are not life-threatening.
Hauer says police Kammeyer told officers in December he wanted to die by being shot by police because he was a registered sex offender and his wife was taking his kids.
He pleaded guilty in 1999 to felony child sex abuse.
