TALLAPOOSA, Ga. (AP) -- A small plane crashed in west Georgia as it tried to make an emergency landing, killing a Florida couple and their 24-year-old son.
Haralson County Coroner Danny Hutcheson said that 56-year-old Kim Woliver and 53-year-old Patricia Woliver died in the Saturday crash. The coroner said their son Alex died Sunday morning after he was rushed to the burn unit of Grady Hospital in Atlanta.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the Cessna 177 went down west of Tallapoosa, not far from the Alabama state line.
The plane had departed from Knoxville, Tenn., and was headed to Panama City, Fla. Hutcheson said the plane was trying to make an emergency landing when it hit some trees.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
