Officials say an earthquake is behind the booms felt and heard earlier this week in Clintonville, Wisconsin:
The mysterious booms were been the talk around town for days.
Clintonville City Administrator Lisa Kuss addressed an auditorium of anxious residents after the US Geological Survey reported a 1.5 magnitude quake hit the city early Tuesday morning.
"The mystery is solved. We have experienced an earthquake here in Clintonville," said Kuss. "What we need to assure the public is that we're going to learn with them, and as we learn more, we will be able to pass that information on to them."
The USGS says the booms can come with quakes, but they made for a tense few days filled with a lot of different theories.
"I thought it was gas lines going down," said Jake DeCleene.
When asked the most entertaining theory she'd heard, Donna Neely said "aliens coming for fuel."
Neely walked out of Thursday's meeting feeling better about it all.
"Just to know what it was because it made you wonder what was happening in town," said Neely.
But not everyone got the answers they wanted.
"They haven't investigated enough and I'm very concerned and I am not happy with the outcome," said Sharon Binger.
Officials are going to continue investigating.
