DETROIT (WXYZ/Associated Press) - Detroit Police say they have located the body of a 93-year-old man inside his son's freezer who kept it there awaiting God's resurrection.
According to Associated Press, Officer George Day says the 48-year-old son of Clarence Bright was arrested Tuesday after officers found Bright's empty casket in the back of his van. He says Bright's body was later found in the basement of the arrested son's home on Detroit's east side.
Around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday police found the casket belonging to 93-year-old Clarence Bright that went missing from a cemetery on Monday. The casket was located in a white van near Dickerson and Harper.
Shortly after, they located the body inside a freezer at the home of the deceased man's son. They say the 48-year-old son was keeping his father's body there awaiting God's resurrection.
Sources tell Detroit's WXYZ Action News funeral services were held for the 93-year-old man on Saturday. The body was to be buried on Sunday but rainy weather kept workers from digging the plot at the Gethsemane Cemetery.
The body and casket were stored in the mausoleum for protection. On Monday, when workers returned to complete the burial, they discovered both were missing.
Action News has learned the names of both the father and son, but are withholding them pending any criminal charges. In some cases, disinterment of a body is a crime. At this time, no charges have been filed.
