BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - A lot of people may be nursing welts after a weekend filled with sunshine and jellyfish.
Tons of the jellyfish are in the intracoastal and in the ocean. For the past two weeks, they have been spotted in near record numbers.
Mauve Jellyfish seem to be everywhere. Beach-goers on Peanut Island sent NewsChannel 5 dozens of photos showing buckets full of jellyfish collected along the sand.
YouReporter , Ed Tichenor, of Reef Rescue, sent NewsChannel 5 video of the jellyfish underwater off the coast of Boynton Beach. You can check the video below.
Biologists believe it is a bio-luminescent variety that's typically found off-shore and was likely pushed in by prevailing winds. So until they move out, swimmers beware!
