At approximately noon on Wednesday the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office & Palm Springs police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Davis Road and Roberts Lane.

At some point a Palm Springs Police cruiser responding to the scene was involved in an accident, according to Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

The officer was not injured, according to a Palm Springs Police spokesman.

The Palm Beach Post reports there was a chase and shootout between Palm Springs police and an unknown number of suspects in a home invasion.

Palmetto Elementary and Forest Hill High School are on lockdown, due to police activity in the area.

Few other details have been released.
