A surfer and some kayakers had an amazing encounter recently.
They were enjoying the water off the wharf in Santa Cruz, California when whales, identified as humpbacks by the Today Show, burst above the surface.
A video camera was rolling and in the footage you can see small fish making a mad dash in the water just before the whales emerged with their mouths wide open.
The photographer was also very close to the action.
Luckily no one was hurt.
