Last week, a professor suggested airlines introduce a pay-as-you-weigh pricing scale .
Now, it's actually happening for passengers who fly Samoa Air.
Samoa has become the world's first airline to charge passengers based on their weight.
Samoa made the announcement on its website , " We at Samoa Air are keeping airfares fair, by charging our passengers only for what they weigh. You are the master of your Air'fair', you decide how much (or little) your ticket will cost," the statement reads.
To make sure passengers are telling the truth, the airline plans to weigh people before boarding, according to several news reports.
