Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts will return to GMA just one day after announcing that she is ill.

Five years after winning the battle against breast cancer, 51-year-old Roberts revealed to viewers that she has been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, once known as pre-leukemia.

Myelodysplastic syndrome, or MSD is a blood disorder that occurs when bone marrow doesn’t make enough healthy blood cells.

Fortunately her sister, a bone marrow match, will be donating her marrow to Roberts.

Roberts wants to inspire others to follow in her sister's footsteps and donate bone marrow. Be The Match is an organization that helps match donors to recipients.

Registering is as easy as filling out a form and having your mouth swabbed for cheek cells.

After making the announcement Monday morning, she went in for her first round of chemotherapy treatment. The treatment is needed to prepare her body for a bone marrow transplant.

“Just got home from first treatment,” she tweeted Monday afternoon.

“ All went well. My family & I are comforted by your prayers, love & support. See you in the morn,” she continued.

Roberts plans to continue working during the treatment, only missing a few sporadic days.  In a press release she stated,

“I’ve been living with this diagnosis for awhile and will continue to anchor GMA. I love what I do and the people with whom I do it. Along with my faith, family and friends, all of you at ABC News give me the motivation and energy to face this challenge.”
