DICKENSON, ND-- Whoever said only girls wear pink obviously never met this group of Dickinson friends.
The eight-year-olds have plenty of confidence to wear pink on their shirts, but they didn't stop there. They wanted a more permanent pink look.
So they decided to dye their hair pink. And not just because they think it looks cool.
"Because of all the people that have breast cancer, and all the people that are trying to get rid of it, all the people that died. We're just doing it to support them to make it through and stuff like that,” third grade student Aidan Rodakowski said.
Candace Smith owns Euphoria Salon and Spa. Her son Rhowan came up with the idea to dye his hair pink.
"He said, ‘you know I want to do that, I want to help support that awareness but it'd be a lot cooler Mom if I could do that with some of my friends,’ " Smith said.
And the event is personal for some of the boys' families.
"His grandmother has battled cancer twice, his great grandmother has battled cancer once, so it just means a lot to us to show our support any way that we can," mother Sammy Tuhy said.
While some of the parents say they were surprised at the idea of pink hair, all of them say they're proud of the boys' courage.
"I keep telling them tough guys wear pink," Smith said.
Pinktober specials will continue throughout the rest of the month at the Euphoria Salon.
