The New York Times had to do some back pedaling this week after it mistakenly published a fake magazine cover featuring President Barack Obama.

Over the weekend, the newspaper ran a series of past "Tiger Beat" magazine covers as a tribute to the teen tabloid. Somehow, a fake Tiger Beat cover, created by The Onion, a website featuring satirical news articles, ended up in that gallery.

The fake magazine cover (in upper left-hand corner of this article) was called, "Barack Obama Tiger Beat Cover Clinches Slumber Party Vote". It also had a quote from the President admitting "I sing in the shower".

On Tuesday, The Times fessed up to the mistake with the following quote:

A series of pictures last Sunday of covers of the magazine Tiger Beat, with an article about how the original teen-girl tabloid has remained virtually unchanged since its inception in 1965, erroneously included a parody cover, produced by the satiric newspaper The Onion, that featured a picture of President Obama.
