Cindy Michaels, Tony Consiglio resignation video: Maine WVII ABC Channel 7 anchors resign on air

BANGOR, ME - News co-anchors in Maine surprised viewers- and fellow staff- after their unexpected resignation on live TV at the end of Tuesday's evening newscast.

According to Bangor Daily News , co-anchors on WVII, ABC Channel7, Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio, had kept their decision to announce their resignation quiet from everyone before it happened.

Michaels and Consiglio have over 12 years of experience with the station and another sister station, though were fed up with journalistic practices and upper management, according to BDN.

Consiglio reportedly said that there were times when he wasn't able to be "honest and ethical as a journalist."

Apparently problems had compounded over the last four years and they believed that if they had planned their exit formally, they wouldn't have been able to say goodbye to their viewers.

“There was a constant disrespecting and belittling of staff and we both felt there was a lack of knowledge from ownership and upper management in running a newsroom to the extent that I was not allowed to structure and direct them professionally,” Michaels explained, as quoted in BDN's article. “I couldn’t do everything I wanted to as a news director. There was a regular undoing of decisions.”

The vice president said that their resignation was expected at some point, but he disagreed with how they described upper management.

BDN says that both anchors are proud of what they have done, but will miss their roles as on-camera personalities.
