The federal government and other officials are trying to block a planned merger of American Airlines and US Airways -- a union that could create the world's largest airline.

Airline passengers who pack light may get to board faster the next time they travel.
American Airlines will now allow passengers who don't need overhead storage bins to board with Group 1 ahead of those boarding with Groups 2 through 4.
Officials say they hope it will speed up the boarding process and cut down the wait time for people who need to stow their bags in overhead bins. The company says so many people bring carry-on bags in order to avoid a baggage fee.
American Airlines customers NewsChannel 5 talked with say boarding early would be nice, but not worth the price of checking a bag.
Passengers who get to the gate and decide they want to take advantage of the perk will be able to check-in their bag at no charge.
