NEW YORK, NY--'Today' show host Matt Lauer is scheduled for surgery today after separating his shoulder in a bicycle accident.
NBC says Lauer flipped over the bike's handlebars when a deer jumped into his path on a ride over the weekend.
The show's publicist says the 51-year-old is 'doing well' and could be back on the air before the end of the week.
Lauer's co-host Meredith Vieira joked about the accident on the air this morning, saying Lauer thinks the deer was hired by the competition.
Lester Holt filled in as Vieira's co-host today.
