Canine cancer drug approved

Until now dogs diagnosed with cancer were given human drugs off-label.

 Now FDA officials have approved Palladia for mast cell tumors in dogs.

 Mast cell tumors are the second most common cancer in dogs.

The drug works by killing tumor cells and cutting off its blood supply.

60 percent of dogs that were given Palladia saw their tumors disappear, shrink or stop growing.

Veterinarians typically use human oncology drugs, but safety information is not available for dogs.

Now there is an option for pet owners that has been tested and proven safe.
