LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Turns out, the West Palm Beach man accused of spearheading one of the largest synthetic drug operations in the country gave hundreds of dollars worth of campaign contributions to a Lake Worth City Commissioner and the elected leader accepted it.

"I've taken campaign money from most of the merchants downtown,” said District 3 Lake Worth Commissioner, Andy Amoroso.

Amoroso is responding to questions about a specific contributions made to his 2011 campaign.  Among his supporters listed on his campaign contributions report is Dylan Harrison, the same Dylan Harrison recently busted for allegedly manufacturing and distributing synthetic marijuana nationwide.

Local and federal investigators have described Harrison as a real life kingpin in the elusive world of fake pot.

According to his campaign contribution report, the $441.22 contribution from Harrison was for printed t-shirts.  Harrison owns the Kava Bar in downtown Lake Worth.  His business is located just a few doors down from Amoroso’s shop, Studio 205 where you can buy everything from candy to cigars, juice to incense.  Amoroso maintains any political support he received from Harrison boiled down to one downtown Lake Worth business owner supporting another.

“There is no relationship, he's a downtown merchant, that’s it," he told the Contact 5 Investigators.

According to Amoroso's campaign contribution reports, Harrison was a one-time contributor in 2011, one that more than a year later is getting a lot  more attention.

“There’s no more comment, there’s nothing more to say,” said Amoroso walking away from Channel 5 cameras.

Dylan Harrison is facing charges for manufacturing and distributing synthetic drugs. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning.
