There were 7 bullet hole markings in the building next door to the CarMax in Boynton Beach - evidence of an officer-involved shooting that police say began around 1:30 Thursday morning.
According to the report, CarMax security witnessed two men jump over the fence then attempt to break into three luxury cars, a Mercedes, Lexus and Audi.
Police were called to the scene and when they arrived, the men jumped back over the fence and toward a stolen Dodge Caravan.
Gene Hall was behind the wheel with 4 other passengers. Police say three officers stood in front of the van and told the driver to stop, but instead they say he pressed the gas, spinning his tires and heading for the officers.
The police fired 23 shots, riddling the van with holes as well as the building.
No one was injured.
"This is just another example of the brazen disregard for law enforcement and human life that seems to be on the rise," says Bpynton Beach Police Spokeswoman Stephanie Slater.
The driver, Gene Hall, has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Grand Theft.
Jimmie Gray and 5 minors face charges for burglary.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
