PALM SPRINGS, FL--The names of the officers involved in Wednesday's fatal shooting have been released. They are identified as Palm Springs Police Officers Douglas Rua,30, and Joseph DeRogatis, 35. A Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Captain who was also involved was indentified as 44-year-old Edwin O'Berry.

On Wednesday, Palm Springs Police responded to a robbery in progress at the Los Gallitos deli, located at Lake Road Road and Davis Road.

According to investigators, Officer Rua ordered the robbery suspect to the ground but the suspect refused. Officer Rua then tasered the suspect and the suspect responded by throwing a flower pot on the officer's head, knocking the officer out.

When Rua came to, he noticed the suspect now had his gun. The scuffle between the officer and the suspect continued outside of a Palm Beach County Fire Station where PBC Fire Rescue Captain Edwin O'Berry took notice.

O'Berry, who was armed with a personal handgun, jumped a chainlink fence to help out Officer Rua.

O'Berry also fired at the suspect but did not strike the suspect. A second Palm Springs Officer responded for back-up. At this time, the suspect, identified as Mauricio Cruz, pointed the gun at the officer.

That officer shot Cruz. Mauricio Cruz was taken to Delray Community Hospital where he  later died from his injuries.
