WEST PALM BEACH, FL-- Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says deputies shot and killed a man suspected of abducting his ex-girlfriend.
The incident began the 51 hundred block of Pine Abbey Drive South around 10 am. It started as a break-in and escalated into a domestic dispute. At some point investigators say 21-year-old Gleen Gomez, of Miami, took 21-year-old Alice Dupont, an FAU senior, hostage.
The pair drove off in a red Mazda. Sheriff Bradshaw says the victim's mother called 911 and dispatchers could hear screaming in the background.
A K9 unit spotted the Mazda and other deputies joined in pursuit. They boxed in the car along the eastbound Southern Boulevard ramp at 441.
Sheriff Bradshaw says when deputies stopped the car, Gomez was holding a knife to Dupont's throat. When it appeared he might kill her, deputies fired killing Gomez.
Sheriff Bradshaw praised deputies for saving the woman's life.
Dupont sustained minor injuries and returned home a few hours later.
