WASHINGTON, D.C. - During the St. Patrick's Day weekend, many celebrate with a glass of green beer, but Irish whiskey is gaining popularity.
According to CNN's Karin Caifa, Irish whiskey is one of the hottest pours in the U-S right now.
At the Dubliner, an Irish pub near Capitol Hill, General Manager Gavin Coleman says patrons are making a switch.
"A lot of people have ties to Irish whiskey whether they have an Irish ancestry or you know, a trip to Ireland that they loved and they tried it over there and they come in to the Dubliner and they want to relive that experience again," he said.
Irish Whiskey, according to CNN, was the fastest-growing segment of spirits in the U.S. in 2012.
The Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. reports that consumption of the liquor increased by 22 percent for the year, with about $415 million in revenue.
Reports show the sales of Irish whiskey jumped nearly 400 percent since 2002.
