INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - When was the last time you shared a good book with a dog? Now's your chance. The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is seeking volunteers for their Read and Relax program for dogs.
Volunteers can sit with the animals and read to them.
The Humane Society says the program is designed to help reduce a dog’s stress through increased human companionship.
According to the Humane Society, Read and Relax programs have shown success in shelters across the United States and can reduce barking and stress behaviors that result in dogs being adopted more quickly and greater adopter satisfaction.
For more information about becoming a Read and Relax volunteer, contact Sara Wright at the Vero Beach & Indian River Humane Society at (772) 388-3331 Ext. 12.
