Thinking about buying a prepaid college plan before the prices go up again? You have until 11:59 p.m. Monday to enroll. After that, you will have to wait until October, when next year's plans are unveiled.
The costs of the most popular four-year university plans have skyrocketed in recent years. This year, it costs $45,367 for a newborn, which can be paid installments of $856 a month for five years or $282 a month until the child goes to college. All mandatory fees are included in this year's price.
Prepaid is also offering a plan where students can get a bachelor's degree at a state college, formerly known as a community college, for $16,514 for a newborn. The full value can be transferred to a university if the child goes there instead, but it will likely cover less than 40 percent of tuition and fees.
