WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Florida Highway Patrol troopers will be on the hunt throughout the state this week during a campaign to crack down on aggressive driving.

FHP reports 88 percent of the accidents troopers respond to are a result of reckless actions taken by drivers.

Troopers will be looking for drivers who are driving too close, making erratic lane changes and driving well above the speed limit.

According to troopers, common causes for aggressive driving include being in a hurry or just having a bad habit of driving too aggressively.

Troopers are hoping the latest push to target aggressive driving changes some minds and saves some lives.

"It's only a matter of time until something bad happens," said Trooper George Campbell, Florida Highway Patrol. "Whether they meet us or they end up hurting someone or even themselves."

Trooper Campbell said most of the wrecks he responds to could have been prevented had a driver been a little more patient.
