WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The man accused of an Aug. 18 deadly shooting in front of the Stonybrook Apartment complex off Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was in court this morning.
Twenty-year-old Anthony "No Neck" Bell is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of 24-year-old Melvin Horne.
Bell was denied bond.
According to an Aug. 20 probable cause affidavit filed by Riviera Beach police, Bell was seen at the Stonybrook Apartments during the shooting. Witnesses say Bell shot Horne multiple times before speeding away in a silver Honda.
Bell, known as "No Neck" and "Lil Ant Worlds," was positively identified in a lineup by a witness.
The responding officer reported that he was nearly hit by a silver car as it sped from the scene.
A witness said Bell pointed a gun at Horne and fired twice, hitting him once. The witness also claimed Bell ran closer to Horne and fired two more shots, striking him again.
The probable cause affidavit says Bell was convicted of armed robbery in August of 2011, prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.
In addition to a charge of first degree murder, Bell has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted Florida felon.
At bond court, representatives from both the victim's family and the suspect's family were present.
While the victim's family declined to comment, Bell's sister, Shanika Bell, and mother, Donna Bell, were vocal when exiting court.
"He's a good boy," his mother said.
His sister interjected, "Good person, caring, stepped up as a man. Helped his family out. Took care of us. Made sure for us."
His mother interrupted, "Never had trouble with him. He's a good boy. And I just don't believe all these accusations about my son. He's gonna' be free. One time, for my son, Anthony Bell, you're gonna' be alright. Keep your head up, soldier."
