RIVIERA BEACH — Free food, HIV testing and information about AIDS prevention will be offered at several locations in Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach Saturday and Sunday.
The Breaking the Code of Silence event is being organized by the Urban League of Palm Beach County and St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Volunteers will distribute health information, free hygiene products and administer free HIV tests.
The OraQuick rapid HIV antibody tests are done with mouth swabs and produce results in 20 minutes.
Results will be kept confidential, said Rita Shipp, a volunteer with the AIDS Ministry at St. James Missionary Baptist Church.
Saturday's AIDS/HIV awareness events are scheduled for:
11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Winn-Dixie grocery store, Broadway at Silver Beach Road, Riviera Beach
4-7 p.m. at Robinson Village, 5104 45th St., West Palm Beach
On Sunday, the HIV/AIDS events will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at five churches:
St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 1524 W. 35th St., Riviera Beach
Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 Avenue O, Riviera Beach
Pentecostal Church of God, 540 Cheerful St., West Palm Beach
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 868 W. Ninth St., Riviera Beach
Roanoke Missionary Baptist Church, 1320 Douglass Ave., West Palm Beach
