Jim Sackett is the embodiment of class, and the definition of character.

Jim showed a generation of news reporters and anchors how to get the story and get it right.

He bid farewell on Wednesday evening in the same rich baritone that always made you feel like everything would work out.

The consummate anchorman shed a tear or two, after he stepped off the set into retirement and the arms of his mother, Beatrice, who surprised him after flying in from Washington, D.C. Hugs also came from from wife, Paula, and children Elizabeth and Mick.

Jim Sackett says he's old fashioned, but his lessons of class, caring, compassion and leadership are timeless.

Thanks for sharing, Jim.
